One of the most beautiful and inspiring psalms in the Bible is Psalm 103, written by King David. In this psalm, David expresses his gratitude and worship to God for all His blessings and mercy. He begins by saying, “Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.”
What does it mean to praise God with all our inmost being? It means to praise Him with our whole heart, mind, soul, and strength. It means to praise Him with every fiber of our being, every breath we take, every thought we have, every emotion we feel. It means to praise Him with sincerity, passion, devotion, and joy. It means to praise Him not only with our words, but also with our actions, our attitudes, our choices, our lives.
Why do we praise God with all our inmost being? Because He is worthy of all our praise. Because He is the Creator and Sustainer of all things. Because He is the Lord and King of all the earth. Because He is the Father and Friend of all who trust in Him. Because He is the Savior and Redeemer of all who believe in Him. Because He is the Healer and Restorer of all who call on Him. Because He is the Giver and Provider of all good thing.
How do we praise God with all our inmost being? By remembering His benefits and forgetting not His deeds. By confessing His forgiveness and celebrating His grace. By acknowledging His sovereignty and submitting to His will. By declaring His greatness and magnifying His name. By rejoicing in His presence and delighting in His word. By loving Him with all our heart and serving Him with all our strength.
Let us join David in praising God with all our inmost being. Let us bless His holy name with gratitude and worship. Let us say with David …
Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
King David
When we praise God with all our inmost being, we also praise Him with all His works and all His attributes. We praise Him for His creation and His power. We praise Him for His wisdom and His justice. We praise Him for His holiness and His righteousness. We praise Him for His love and His mercy. We praise Him for His faithfulness and His goodness. We praise Him for His grace and His peace. We praise Him for His beauty and His glory .
When we praise God with all our inmost being, we also praise Him with all His angels and all His saints. We join the heavenly chorus of worship that never ceases to sing, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.” We join the earthly community of faith that never stops to say, “The Lord is great and greatly to be praised.” We join the universal family of God that never fails to proclaim, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise.”
